SHAMOKIN, Pa. — The Strausser-Shroyer Memorial Swimming Pool in Shamokin is usually busy this time of year. However, instead of watching swimmers, staff is busy doing some cleanup around the grounds. The pool was supposed to open on June 6, but a pipe leak was found in the deep end. Mary Duganitz, manager of the pool, says they filled the pool and realized when the pump came on that they lost thousands of gallons of water. "Our street department did come and actually diagnosed the leak.

That's changing as GoShamokin, a nonprofit that helps both locals and visitors enjoy all events and activities in the Greater Shamokin area, just launched a new app called Shamokin Stories. Temporary shelter helps more than a dozen former residents of Danville Suites find stable housing Original

MONTOUR COUNTY, Pa. — Last month, Valley Township code officials shut down the Danville Suites after mold was discovered inside following a death investigation. Many of the hotel's residents didn't have another place to go until a group of area nonprofits came together to help. A temporary shelter was set up in nearby Mahoning Township in the former Montour County Human Services building. Krunal Thakore from the Gate House says the first few weeks of the shelter opening were intense.
