Sacramento Regional Transit (SacRT) is partnering with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office and community organizations to launch a new public awareness campaign to help people spot the signs of human trafficking and know where to turn for help. The initiative includes placing posters at bus stops in vulnerable communities, as well as on buses and trains throughout the region.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A new Grocery Outlet opened Thursday morning on Fulton Avenue near Hurley Way in Sacramento, drawing shoppers eager to check out the store. The first 100 customers in line received a gift card valued between $5 and $500, and all shoppers received a complimentary reusable bag with their purchase. Lines formed outside the store, with some shoppers arriving as early as 4 a.m. The store is operated by Keith Johnson, with support from his wife, Phyllis.

Mom helps family escape South Sacramento house fire

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A family of six escaped to safety Tuesday morning in South Sacramento after flames tore through their garage and spread into the home. Firefighters arrived at the home within about three minutes of the 5:05 a.m. 911 call, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Captain Mark Nunez said. Crews found a garage “well involved” with flames that had already reached into the house.
