When Mitch Schreiber moved into Amy Shore’s Westchester home about a decade ago, he entered a well lived-in space. Shore had raised her two boys there, in a colonial revival property whose interiors were set up for homework sessions and sleepovers. Schreiber, too, had two sons from a previous marriage. Not long after their four kids graduated college, the couple saw an opportunity to reimagine the home as a retreat for two.
