‘This is beyond a policing thing': Milwaukee mayor responds to Fourth of July weekend violence that injured 2 officers

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As two police officers recover from two separate incidents near some of Milwaukee’s most popular bar areas, city leaders say they are working to ensure public safety. According to Milwaukee police, a 33-year-old female officer was injured from the blast of a firework near the Brady Street Walgreens just after midnight on Sunday, July 5. The incident was recorded on cellphone video obtained by CBS 58. The officer was sent to the hospital and is now at home recovering.

MILWAUKEE, (CBS 58) -- New video tonight shows a violent scene along Milwaukee's Brady Street on the Fourth of July. In the video, it shows officers running when a firework explodes in the parking lot of the Brady Street Walgreens, an officer falls to the ground. People then went over to try and help the officer as other officers arrived to help the potentially injured officer get away from the parking lot. CBS 58 News spoke to a woman who said she saw the fireworks go off.

Bob Uecker mural in downtown Milwaukee unveiled with tailgate-themed celebration

With the completion of an 80-foot by 100-foot mural with his face on it, it proves exactly that. A tailgate-themed celebration on Tuesday, June 30, marked the completion of “Mr. Baseball,” by Mauricio Ramirez. The mural depicts Bob Uecker in his renowned role as play-by-play announcer for the Milwaukee Brewers – a position held by Uecker for 54 seasons.
