‘I suffered multiple failings while I was in active treatment’, says breast cancer patient
4m County Durham and Darlington NHS Trust has apologised ‘unreservedly’, after admitting that hundreds of breast cancer patients came to harm under their care between 2023 and 2025. Affected patients claimed some mastectomies could have been avoided, while others said diagnoses were delayed, and operations had been carried out in haste. An internal review by the trust has looked into 514 patients so far – and found 315 came to harm, including one who died.
How Mandelson’s Epstein links became Starmer’s nightmare
To admit or not to admit - that is Starmer’s question. The power of the Mandelson scandal to overwhelm him cannot be overstated. The stench of betrayal, corruption and shocking personal behaviour is so strong that this threatens not just Sir Keir Starmer but the whole Labour brand. So far the prime minister has not admitted he was wrong. He is angry, shocked, betrayed, sorry that Mandelson lied to conceal the truth of his relationship with the dead paedophile and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

BBC bosses quit and Trump threatens a lawsuit
What a mess. It is way beyond the most absurd plotline of W1A.
Israel-Palestine: Is the two-state solution dead?
As Donald Trump flies home, Britain is preparing to recognise the Palestinian state. Australia, Canada, Belgium and France are all about to do the same, joining almost 150 countries at the United Nations who already have. It isn’t clear what Britain is recognising - not any Palestinian government, not any borders in particular - but it is a statement of belief that there should be a Palestinian state and with it continues Britain’s desire for a “two-state solution”.
UN calls Gaza ‘Hell on earth’. Israel calls UN biased. Palestinians ask ‘what is the world doing?’
28 countries, the United Nations and over 100 aid agencies are all trying to make Israel listen. As more and more people starve to death, and horrific images of children dying from malnutrition emerge, the killing of people at aid distribution sites goes on day after day, and nobody can understand why. There are no phrases to adequately describe Gaza now. The UN called it “Hell on earth”. I’m not sure that does justice to it, when it is entirely man made.
Consequences of an old war, a new front opens, and robots on the frontline
Just when you thought Britain’s exit from Afghanistan couldn’t get any more shameful it turns out it could. The scenes of people trying to cling to the wings of planes, fleeing the Taliban as they retook control, crawling through ditches desperate to be evacuated was a grim end to Britain and America’s role in the post 9-11 conflict. Now we know things in fact got even worse and the consequences for British politics could be quite profound.
Man-made disasters from Texas to Gaza
Over 100 dead in Texas floods. Wildfires choking the Mediterranean. Another punishing heatwave and drought in Europe. We are getting used to the devastation of more unpredictable, deadly weather events. The science is clear, for every one degree Celsius rise in global temperature, the air can hold seven per cent more moisture. It can make rainfall events such as the one in Texas more extreme - and when these disasters hit developed Western societies they generate massive media coverage.
Facing a rebellion, Starmer blinks first and Reeves wipes away tears
I’ve been caught crying on TV a few times. If you spend your life on camera there’s a reasonable chance it will happen and frankly I’m surprised it doesn’t happen to more people more often. But the image of Rachel Reeves in tears, for personal reasons we don’t know, became emblematic of a government in trouble. Backing down on welfare was supposed to quell the rebellion but it didn’t.
F-Bombs, Love Bombs and Bunker Busters
What was the F-bomb on the White House lawn really about? What to make of the NATO Secretary General calling Trump “Daddy”? Amid all the talk of peace have people forgotten the killing still raging every day in Gaza? We often speak of the world stage when covering international events but rarely have the players taken their role quite so literally. So much of this week seemed performative. Trump bombed Iran and posted about regime change but apparently didn’t mean it.

When he sat down in Cambridge for a discussion about the vexed question of impartiality in television news presenters, Piers Morgan was clearly still licking his wounds from his abrupt departure in 2021 from ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

KRISHNAN GURU-MURTHY describes stress of getting tickets
Taylor Swift ticket stress began in our house, months ago — at 12 o'clock on October 27, 2022, to be precise. My then 17-year-old daughter Jasmine was quite frantic. 'Dad, you have to pre-order Midnights otherwise we won't be able to get tickets to the tour!' What? I looked at her vacantly. 'If we pre-order the new Taylor album Midnights online before 12 we will get a pre-sale code for when she comes here on tour.
Joe Biden may feel he’s won the debates but Donald Trump is not defeated yet
He didn’t shout, rant or rave. He didn’t interrupt. He even complimented the moderator. Donald Trump had listened to the advice after the first debate. This was the most presidential we’ve seen him for months. It meant last night was actually a debate in which we heard the answers, and it was clear Trump is changing his attack on Joe Biden substantially in the last few days of the campaign. It has ensured few people should dare to call this election yet, despite opinion polls putting Biden well ahead.

Dr Huniades Urbina is trying to expose the desperate shortage of drugs and medical supplies in what should be the best equipped paediatric unit in Venezuela, but he is taking a great risk.

‘Come home’ Boris tells Ukip supporters The Mayor of London urged Ukip supporters to vote for the Conservatives in The Sun on Friday, saying they “need to do the right thing for the country”. Mr Johnson claimed a Labour government would be a “supine, useless federalist one” and that Ukip supporters should vote for the Conservatives to stave it off. He also said his party would give people a say on Europe and immigration.

Bike4Good : London-Paris in 24 hrs for Duchenne Children's Trust on May 31st 2013: Two Days to Go
A great day for sponsorship. Lots of people seemed to remember that the day is imminent and went to the donation pages. We got a great boost from Richard Desmond's charitable foundation who sponsored David Abraham to the tune of £5000. Yes that's the owner of Five paying the CEO of Channel 4 to cycle to Paris for charity.
Bike4Good : London-Paris in 24 hrs for Duchenne Children's Trust
As mentioned yesterday Jon Snow has had to pull out of the ride. In penance he has made an offer that will involve almost as much pain as riding from London to Paris in 24 hours. Jon will be ceremoniously waxed, in the Channel 4 News studio, to raise money instead.
