Introduction Long-term ecological monitoring (LTEM) is any sustained effort to monitor species populations, communities or ecosystem components and processes over decadal or greater timescales. Globally, such efforts have been useful for investigating long-term trends, responses to ecological disturbance, and recovery trajectories of populations, communities and ecosystems, as well as phenology and other biological rhythms (e.g. Bjorkman et al. 2020; Hudson et al. 2022).
