An intelligent HMM-based system for training brush techniques in ink painting
Abstract In the present digital age, traditional paper-based practice for learning ink paintings often appears tedious for students in the new era, which increases the barrier to preserve the traditional art form of Oriental ink painting and to pass down its practice skills to future generations. This paper proposes an intelligent system shukong for coaching Oriental ink painting, which introduces a computer-aided 3D environment to coach brush manipulation in Oriental painting in real time.
Sexual dimorphism of COVID-19 inspires drug repositioning and host-targeting immunotherapy for viral pneumonia
Abstract Sexual hormones play an important role in modulating disease outcome of COVID-19. The interplay between viral replication, host immune responses, pathology process and sexual hormone levels are complicated, and the underlying mechanisms remain exclusive.
Targeting the JAK/STAT pathway in atopic dermatitis
Abstract Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, inflammatory skin disorder characterized by immune dysregulation, skin barrier dysfunction, and pruritus. Central to its pathogenesis is the Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) signaling pathway, which mediates cytokine responses—including interleukin (IL)-4, IL-13, IL-31, and thymic stromal lymphopoietin—that drive T-helper 2-skewed inflammation and epidermal barrier impairment.

The pathological types of lung cancer are mainly divided into small cell lung cancer (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with NSCLC accounting for approximately 80%, including adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma (2, 3).
STAT1 promotes ferroptosis and inflammation in mouse hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury - Communications Biology
Abstract Hepatic ischemia reperfusion injury (HIRI) is a critical complication in liver surgery and transplantation, driven by excessive inflammation and hepatocellular death. Although ferroptosis is recognized as a major form of regulated cell death in HIRI, the upstream regulators of this process remain poorly defined. Here, we show that the transcription factor STAT1 plays a pivotal role in promoting ferroptosis and inflammation during HIRI.
Statistical Analysis of Machine Learning‐Derived Equatorial Plasma Bubble Characteristics From Airglow Observations in Southern China During a Solar Cycle
1 Introduction After sunset, the ionosphere frequently becomes unstable. In low-latitude regions, this instability gives rise to specific plasma density depletions known as Equatorial Spread F (ESF) or equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs). It is widely recognized that the Rayleigh-Taylor-like instability is responsible for EPBs (Kelley, 2009; Makela & Otsuka, 2012; Ott, 1978; Weber et al., 1978).
Precise control of chromatin loop extrusion enhances sustainable green revolution yield in rice - Nature Genetics
Abstract Continuous and excessive use of inorganic fertilizers underlies current global crop production; therefore, reducing fertilizer use while increasing crop productivity is critical for ensuring agricultural sustainability and food security. Here we show that the natural variant of RCN2, a rice TERMINAL FLOWER 1/CENTRORADIALIS homolog, enhances photosynthesis, nitrogen assimilation and grain yield by restricting chromatin loop extrusion.
Case Report: Challenges in immunotherapy for the elderly: a case of refractory ICI-induced AIHA and thrombocytopenia in advanced gastric cancer
CASE REPORT article Volume 16 - 2025 | https://doi.org/10.3389/fimmu.2025.1679817 Introduction Immune checkpoint inhibitors have revolutionized cancer treatment by enhancing antitumor immunity. Unlike traditional chemotherapy, ICIs are associated with fewer off-target side effects (1). Immune checkpoint inhibitors activate the body’s immune response, primarily by blocking the PD-1/PD-L1 and CTLA-4 pathways. This enables T cells to identify and attack tumor cells using the body’s own defenses.

Frontiers | Lily polysaccharides alleviate colitis through the microbiota–N8-acetylspermidine–cGAS–STING signaling axis
Highlights • Lily polysaccharides (LP) restore microbial balance in DSS-induced colitis. • LP upregulates N8-acetylspermidine (N8AS), a protective microbial metabolite. • LP and N8AS co-inhibit the cGAS–STING pathway and reduce intestinal inflammation. • LP alleviates colitis via the microbiota/N8AS/cGAS–STING immunometabolic axis.
Ace2 mutation disrupts amino acid absorption, impairs growth, and alters microbiota dynamics in zebrafish - Communications Biology
Abstract Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (Ace2) is a well-studied enzyme with important physiological functions in mammals. However, its roles in non-mammalian animals remain largely unexplored. This study investigates the function of Ace2 in zebrafish using CRISPR/Cas9-generated ace2 mutants (−/−). The ace2−/− mutants exhibited significant growth retardation with reduced body length and weight. High ace2 expression was found in the intestine, indicating its importance in gut function.
Automatic Detection and Feature Extraction of Equatorial Plasma Bubbles From All‐Sky Airglow Image Based on Machine Learning
1 Introduction Equatorial plasma bubbles (EPBs) are large-scale plasma depletion structures that occur in the low-latitude F region of the ionosphere after sunset and are primarily generated by Rayleigh–Taylor instability (Kelley, 2009; Ott, 1978; Weber et al., 1978). EPBs pose a severe threat to satellite-based communication and navigation systems because they cause scintillation when radio signals pass through them. Understanding the origin and development of EPBs is important.

Vitellogenin receptor mediates heat adaptability of oocyte development in mud crabs and zebrafish - Nature Communications
Abstract Climate-driven warming affects the reproduction of oviparous ectotherms. However, whether oviparous ectotherms possess a protection mechanism against heat stress for oocyte development, which is essential for maintaining the continuity of animal populations, is largely unknown. Under high temperatures, female mud crabs (Scylla paramamosain) typically have well-formed ovaries, while a few crabs were found to experience oocyte development failure.
