Greater losses from heat exposure experienced by female smallholders in sub-Saharan Africa
Abstract Intensifying heat anomalies place women at disproportionate risks from crop damage and food insecurity but such observed temperature–yield dynamics are difficult to quantify. Evidence remains insufficient on how gendered agricultural sensitivities are affected by normative barriers and resource allocations across plots, households and communities. Here we estimate yield responses of 60,558 agricultural plots in sub-Saharan Africa to within- and cross-country temperature variation.

Electrochemical machining casing mounting flange via a concave arc-shaped tool
ABSTRACT The mounting flange is an important part of the thin-walled casing, and its forming process faces many challenges in traditional machining, such as machining stress and workpiece deformation. To overcome these defects, electrochemical machining is used to machine the casing mounting flange via an arc-shaped tool, and a 3D simulation model is built to study the material dissolution process.

Quantitative correlation between surface defect dimensions and absorption in optical components
High-quality optical components constitute a fundamental assurance for the stable operation of high-precision optical systems, with surface defects existing as a critical limiting factor in the improvement of their laser-induced damage resistance performance. Surface defects in optical components of high-energy laser systems induce localized thermal deposition through their absorbing properties, leading to component failure and compromised system integrity.
High-altitude aerosols (typically >5 km) play a crucial role in forming ice-nucleating particles (INPs), which regulate Earth’s energy budget. However, their retrieval is highly sensitive to signal perturbations due to relatively lower concentrations.

Design method for wafer alignment marks with low alignment position deviation under process-induced asymmetry
High-precision wafer alignment is a key technology for achieving high overlay accuracy in advanced-node semiconductor manufacturing. In immersion, extreme ultraviolet (EUV), and high-NA EUV lithography, asymmetry in alignment mark structures, introduced by processes, such as chemical–mechanical polishing, is a primary cause of alignment position deviation (APD), which significantly degrades overlay accuracy.
Structure light measurement for a BGA packaged chip with high-precision and large field-of-view
Ball grid Array (BGA) packaging is one of the mainstream chip packaging modes. The deviation of solder ball height can significantly affect the safety and reliability of packaged chips and may even lead to chip failure. To efficiently and accurately measure the height of solder balls on large-sized square BGA chips, a large field-of-view (FOV) and high-precision structured light measurement system is constructed in this paper.
The threats of micro- and nanoplastics to aquatic ecosystems and water health - Nature Water
Abstract Micro(nano)plastics (MNPs) are pervasive in global water sources, posing indirect threats to water quality by disrupting biogeochemical cycles, facilitating pathogen dispersion and interacting with emerging contaminants. Here we delve into the intricate ways in which MNPs affect nutrient sequestration, essential element adsorption and microbial functions, consequently impacting the carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur cycles in aquatic environments.
Breaking the mid-spatial-frequency noise floor to sub-nanometer in Fizeau interferometry via anisotropic spatial-coherence engineering
Anisotropic spatial-coherence engineering via illumination modulation is demonstrated to selectively suppress the mid-spatial-frequency (MSF) noise in interferometry. Using a 3D spatial-coherence model, we prove the superiority of a synthetic ring source with anisotropic spatial-coherence function in Fizeau systems and reveal characteristic residual noise patterns of a zero-order Bessel function.

Multimodal surface defect detection of fused silica components based on confocal time-resolved photoluminescence microscopy
Surface defects on fused silica components are susceptible to damage under high-fluence ultraviolet pulse laser irradiation, which is one of the key factors limiting the improvement of the laser damage resistance. However, there is still an absence of intuitive non-destructive evaluation methods for the laser damage resistance of surface defects. In this paper, we have developed a multimodal surface defect detection system.

RIPK1 deficiency prevents thymic NK1.1 expression and subsequent iNKT cell development
Introduction Recent studies on a cohort of patients with a newly-described cluster of autoimmune symptoms (CRIA), characterized by early onset fevers and lymphadenopathy, were found to have common underlying gain-of-function mutations which rendered Receptor-Interacting Serine/Threonine-Protein Kinase 1 (RIPK1) protein resistant to caspase 8 (Casp8) cleavage. Patients also had increased inflammatory RNA signatures, increased TNF and IL-1β serum cytokines, and hyper-responsiveness to TLR ligands.

Paxbp1 is indispensable for the survival of CD4 and CD8 double-positive thymocytes
1 Introduction T cell development is critical for T cell-mediated cellular immunity (1). T cell development proceeds through a finely tuned cellular program. First, bone marrow (BM)-derived lymphoid progenitor cells enter the thymus to initiate differentiation into mature T cells (2). In the thymus, CD4-CD8- double negative (DN) thymocytes undergo sequential DN1-4 stages, entailing pre-TCR complex formation and several cycles of proliferation (3).

Multiagent Soft Actor–Critic for Traffic Light Timing | Journal of Transportation Engineering, Part A: Systems | Vol 149, No 2
Abstract Deep reinforcement learning has strong perception and decision-making capabilities that can effectively solve the problem of continuous high-dimensional state-action space and has become the mainstream method in the field of traffic light timing. However, due to model structural defects or different strategic mechanisms of models, most deep reinforcement learning models have problems such as convergence and divergence or poor exploration capabilities.
Innate and Innate-like Effector Lymphocytes in Health and Disease
Abstract Lymphocytes can be functionally partitioned into subsets belonging to the innate or adaptive arms of the immune system. Subsets of innate and innate-like lymphocytes may or may not express Ag-specific receptors of the adaptive immune system, yet they are poised to respond with innate-like speed to pathogenic insults but lack the capacity to develop classical immunological memory.
