What was your first job as a journalist?
I was first hired to help with sports in Utah.
How is social media changing news?
The audience is having news conversations on non-traditional platforms so traditional outlets must shift their story-telling efforts.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Journalism is about telling stories, providing information and shining a light in dark places. It is an essential part of democracy.
What's your favorite social network?
Instagram is my most frequent network. I find the stories most appealing, though Facebook is where I have the largest audience.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes. I learned the importance of listening to more experienced voices.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
If you don't love and value the essence of journalism, find something else to do. It should be a passion.
What's your favorite drink?
Coke Zero please, while working.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Looking through a lens, traveling or appreciating the wide world with its cultures, people and rare and precious unique places.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
I find looking a variety of news sources is essential to staying well informed.
