Widespread rain Wednesday, lightning and gusty winds possible

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Wednesday is a Gulf Coast Weather Impact Day as a cold front digs into the region triggering widespread rain at times. While today won't be a washout, expect off and on again downpours. The best chance for storms will be during the late afternoon and evening. The main threats will be gusty winds and frequent lightning. Your Gulf Coast Weather says due to widespread rain and higher cloud coverage, highs will only be in the mid-80s Wednesday.

May ranks 2nd hottest on record for Southwest Florida

If you felt like May was particularly hot, you're not imagining it! The average temperature came in at 82.1 degrees, ranking as the second hottest May on record for Southwest Florida. Keep in mind, the average temperature factors in the overnight lows. The hottest May was in 2024 with an average temperature of 83.2 degrees. As far as rainfall, many communities surpassed the average May rainfall though we didn't receive enough to eliminate drought.

Hurricane season begins; Isolated showers & storms Monday

Hurricane season officially begins today, though no development is expected over the next seven days as the tropics remain quiet for now. An onshore wind will favor morning coastal showers Monday with storms developing by the late afternoon. Highs will reach the low 90s with feels like temperatures in the triple digits at times. By the late afternoon and evening, storms will favor inland areas east of I-75.
