Tumor Necrosis Factor-α Mediates Inflammation-induced Early-Stage Left Ventricular Systolic Dysfunction
Elevated systemic inflammation contributes to pathogenesis of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), but molecular mechanisms are poorly understood. Although left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction is the main cause of HFpEF, subclinical systolic dysfunction also contributes.
Isotype-dependent shifts of natural autoantibody profiles in systemic lupus erythematosus-associated serological groups
Abstract Objectives: Homeostatic natural autoantibodies (nAAbs) are proposed regulators of inflammation and autoimmunity, studied mainly as natural IgM. Whether pathological autoantibody (pAAb) expansion in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)-associated serology is mirrored by isotype-divergent nAAb changes has rarely been examined.

Exercise Modulates Microbial Metabolites and Induces Stromal Remodeling in Pancreatic Cancer Available to Purchase
Exercise induces a variety of changes in the tumor microenvironment, with beneficial effects in several tumor types. However, a better understanding of the clinical effects of exercise and mediating mechanisms is needed to maximize the utility of exercise for patients. In this study, we analyzed tumors from patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) in the PancFit trial and identified an exercise-induced reduction in cells expressing α-smooth muscle actin (αSMA).

China’s growing trade surplus: why exports are surging as imports stall
Amid US-China trade tensions and a shifting geopolitical context, China’s widening trade surplus, particularly in goods, has attracted considerable attention. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese exports and imports tended to move in tandem. Since then, however, a clear decoupling has taken place: goods exports have risen well above their pre-pandemic trend, while goods imports have stagnated below their 2021 level (Chart A).

Role of obesity-management medications before and after metabolic bariatric surgery: a systematic review
Metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS) induces weight loss through a complex interplay of mechanisms, including alterations in humoral and neural signals in the gut–brain axis, bile acid metabolism pathways, and gut microbiota1. However, weight loss outcomes following MBS are highly variable at the individual level, similar to other modalities for the treatment of obesity2.
International consensus position statement on the role of obesity management medications in the context of metabolic bariatric surgery: expert guideline by the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO)
Metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS) is the most effective long-term treatment option for clinical obesity and its complications1. Nonetheless, modern pharmacotherapy involving intestinal hormonal analogues, such as semaglutide and tirzepatide, have shown good weight loss outcomes in the short and medium term2–4. Potentially, such obesity management medications (OMMs) may be synergistic with or additive to MBS for selected patients before and/or after MBS regarding improved outcomes.

Gold is in a secular bull market and now is the time for gold stocks to shine
Shaun le Roux, Fund Manager at PSG Asset Management Gold is currently raking up all-time highs and drawing renewed attention. While trading at these levels (and the inevitable market excitement that follows) could be signs that the price of gold is potentially due for a correction, this does not negate the important role it can play in portfolios over the long term. In fact, we believe the metal’s role is currently amplified, and that gold stocks offer a particularly attractive opportunity.

Metabolic/Bariatric Surgery is Safe and Effective in People with Obesity, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Chronic Kidney Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials | Obesity Surgery
Abstract Obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D), and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are thought to increase surgical risks and reduce weight loss after metabolic/bariatric surgery (MBS). Electronic databases were searched between January 2013 and August 2023 for randomized controlled trials (RCT) of MBS reporting data on the safety, total weight loss (TWL), and metabolic control in patients with and without CKD. Forty-four out of 2904 articles were analyzed, representing 1470 patients.
