'Edu-tainment': Issaquah volunteers use trail cameras to monitor wildlife

A grassroots volunteer group that uses hidden cameras to quietly document and monitor Washington animals is now expanding. The Issaquah Alps Wildlife Camera Project, a partnership between the Issaquah Alps Trails Club and the City of Issaquah Parks Department, has placed five motion-sensor cameras on public land, with funding secured for 10 more to be deployed soon. New waterfront nest boxes aim to rebuild Tacoma's Purple Martin colony

TACOMA, Wash. — Experts are closely monitoring a new set of nest boxes recently installed along Ruston Way that they hope will attract and rebuild a local colony of Purple Martin, North America’s largest swallow. Staff from Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium relocated 16 nest boxes to a berm south of Chinese Reconciliation Park this month after the birds’ previous homes were lost. This story continues below.
