HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Community members and activists met in Hartford Sunday to call for accountability five months after a Hartford Police officer shot and killed a person in a mental health crisis. According to a report from The Connecticut Office of the Inspector General, Hartford police responded to an apartment on Capitol Avenue in February after family members of Everard Walker called 211 to request assistance. Police accompanied mental health professionals for the evaluation.

BrightPath Early Learning and Child Care Center has since closed its doors after a former employee, 29-year-old Jan Carlos Berrios Otero, was accused of sexually abusing multiple children in his care. He was first arrested on April 1.
