ACAT1/SOAT1 governs mitochondrial dynamics and thermogenesis via the mTOR-MFN2-USP2 axis in brown adipocytes
Abstract Mitochondrial dynamics are crucial for brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis and systemic energy homeostasis; yet, the cholesterol-sensing pathways regulating these processes remain poorly defined. Here we report that ACAT1, an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-resident cholesterol esterase, acts as a critical rheostat of thermogenesis by governing mitochondrial dynamics in BAT.

FIS1 dependent peripheral fission exacerbates mitochondrial fragmentation and dysfunction in prion diseases
Abstract Introduction: Mitochondrial dysfunction is an early and critical feature of neuronal injury in prion diseases, a group of fatal transmissible neurodegenerative disorders. Mitochondrial dynamics, a core component of mitochondrial quality control, maintains neuronal homeostasis through balanced fission and fusion.

The Chemistry of Metal‐Organic Frameworks for Multicomponent Gas Separation
Adsorbents-based gas separation technologies are regarded as the potential energy-efficient alternatives towards current thermal-driven methods, and the study on multi-component gas separation is essential to deepen our understanding of the adsorbents for practical use. Relative to the ideal two-component mixtures, both the adsorption behavior and separation mechanisms are obviously more complex in multiple gas mixtures due to their close or even overlapped sizes and properties.

1. Introduction Within the continuously advancing domain of hyperspectral image (HSI) technology, imaging spectrometers have undergone significant evolution and are currently capable of acquiring a multitude of spectral bands, in the order of hundreds, directly from the Earth’s surface [1,2,3,4]. This technological progression has allowed for HSIs that can describe the chemical constituents of terrestrial features with high precision.

Reprogramming neuroblastoma by diet-enhanced polyamine depletion
Abstract Neuroblastoma is a highly lethal childhood tumor derived from differentiation-arrested neural crest cells. Like all cancers, its growth is fueled by metabolites obtained from either circulation or local biosynthesis. Neuroblastomas depend on local polyamine biosynthesis, with the inhibitor difluoromethylornithine showing clinical activity.

Serine Catabolism Feeds NADH when Respiration Is Impaired
Highlights • Serine catabolism by the mitochondrial folate pathway produces substantial NADH • Respiration inhibition blocks NADH production by TCA cycle but not serine catabolism • In respiration-impaired cells, serine catabolism drives NADH buildup • Serine pathway modulation can impact cellular redox state Summary NADH provides electrons for aerobic ATP production. In cells deprived of oxygen or with impaired electron transport chain activity, NADH accumulation can be toxic.

Lactate-mediated epigenetic reprogramming regulates formation of human pancreatic cancer-associated fibroblasts
|
Abstract Even though pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is associated with fibrotic stroma, the molecular pathways regulating the formation of cancer associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are not well elucidated. An epigenomic analysis of patient-derived and de-novo generated CAFs demonstrated widespread loss of cytosine methylation that was associated with overexpression of various inflammatory transcripts including CXCR4.

An Asymmetric Anion‐Pillared Metal-Organic Framework as a Multisite Adsorbent Enables Simultaneous Removal of Propyne and Propadiene from Propylene
The one‐step removal of multi‐component gases based on a single material will significantly improve the efficiency of separation processes but it is challenging, owing to the difficulty to precisely fabricate porous materials with multiple binding sites tailored for different guest molecules. Now a niobium oxide–fluoride anion‐pillared interpenetrated material ZU‐62 (NbOFFIVE‐2‐Cu‐i, NbOFFIVE=NbOF 2−) is presented.
