What was your first job as a journalist?

My first job job in journalism was at the Anacortes American while I was finishing my last quarter at Western Washington University.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To be a journalist is to hold power to account.

What's your favorite social network?

Hands down Instagram. I like posting only my photography on Instagram. It's a great way to practice my craft while showing people what I do.

What's your favorite drink?

Coffee — by the beans of java I set my mind in motion.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

In the field, running after a wild story somewhere in Southeast Asia giving my family and friends gray hairs.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I'm a Mongabay fan — they're the new NatGeo.
