Posted: Jul 8, 2026 / 04:41 PM EDT Updated: Jul 8, 2026 / 04:41 PM EDT RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) — North Carolina is one of at least 17 states reporting an increase in cases of cyclosporiasis, a parasitic infection that can cause extreme diarrhea and other symptoms. Michigan currently has more than 700 reported cases. As of July 6, North Carolina reported 110 cases since May 1, with 85 of those cases in Wake County. Health officials say the source of the illness has not yet been identified.
