Essay: More Than a Game
When my friends and I arrived at the Deer District for Game 6 of the 2021 NBA Finals to watch the Milwaukee Bucks take on the Phoenix Suns, I felt overwhelmed by the excitement in the air. The martini - a classic cocktail with endless modern variations
What makes a martini? Tradition calls for gin and vermouth garnished with an olive or lemon twist. Substituting vodka, changing the ratio of the spirits or adding extra olive juice are ways to venture into the many additional variations of the classic cocktail. But the definition has expanded well beyond that of the simple two- or three-ingredient drink that’s long been a mainstay at supper clubs and steakhouses.
