Advanced applications of cationic photosensitizer DHPC in photodynamic eradication of drug-resistant bacteria
Abstract Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is increasingly viewed as a reliable and effective treatment for infections caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria. However, the limited uptake of photosensitizers (PS) by bacteria remains a major challenge. Cationization enables PS to accumulate around bacterial cells, thereby promoting their intracellular delivery.

Emergence of the enhanced equatorial Atlantic warming as a fingerprint of global warming - Nature Communications
Abstract The response of tropical sea surface temperature (SST) to global warming plays a crucial role in shaping both global and regional climates, so it receives immense attention and remains being debated. Here, we demonstrate that enhanced equatorial warming (EEW) is a more robust response to global warming than the commonly examined changes in the zonal SST gradient across the tropical Pacific, which is marked by discrepancies between observations and models.

An interpretable building air conditioning load forecasting framework using SSA-optimized Bi-LSTM and SHAP analysis
Abstract Short-term air conditioning load forecasting in industrial buildings plays a key role in energy management and carbon neutrality efforts. Yet internal disturbances, latent heat variations, and seasonal distribution shifts often hinder model generalization. Here we propose an interpretable framework that couples Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA)-optimized Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM) networks with SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP).

Hot season gets hotter due to rainfall delay over tropical land in a warming climate - Nature Communications
Abstract Tropical land generally experiences the hottest period (spring) in a year just before the onset of wet season. Previous studies suggested that in a warming climate, the wet season would come later, but its origin is debated and its impact on temperature remains unknown. Here, we find that the warming of hot season would be amplified under global warming, and refer to it as “hot-season-gets-hotter” phenomenon.

The evolution of sexual dichromatism in a large radiation of landfowl: Re-examining female-biased selection in Wallace's model
Abstract Sexual dichromatism is generally thought to arise from sexual selection favouring elaborately coloured males, as proposed in Darwin's model. Wallace offers an expanded perspective, emphasising that the evolution of cryptic and dim female colouration to evade nest predation significantly contributed to the origin of sexual dichromatism. However, previous studies on the evolutionary forces of sexual dichromatism examining Darwin's and Wallace's models have produced mixed results.

Don't Hate AI. Enlist AI to Fight Hate
The most recent hate against Haitian Americans feels depressingly familiar: rumors and lies, amplified online and by prominent leaders, invoke racist tropes and incite violence. Already, bomb threats in Springfield, Ohio, have forced schools and city buildings to close. An entire community fears that its most vulnerable members—immigrants and children—will fall victim. As researchers who study the effects of anti-Asian hate, we've seen this all before.

Crosstalk of HDAC4, PP1, and GSDMD in controlling pyroptosis - Cell Death & Disease
Abstract Gasdermin D (GSDMD) functions as a pivotal executor of pyroptosis, eliciting cytokine secretion following cleavage by inflammatory caspases. However, the role of posttranslational modifications (PTMs) in GSDMD-mediated pyroptosis remains largely unexplored. In this study, we demonstrate that GSDMD can undergo acetylation at the Lysine 248 residue, and this acetylation enhances pyroptosis.

Regioselectivity of CH activation in cytochrome P450‐catalyzed intramolecular cyclization of alkylamine compounds
Abstract The reaction mechanism of cytochrome P450-mediated intramolecular cyclization of 2-aminoamide compounds to imidazolinone was studied by density functional theory. The cyclization reaction involves three steps: hydrogen abstraction, dehydration of intermediates to zwitterions and final ring closure. Interestingly, high spin (HS) state P450-catalyzed dehydration exhibits a mechanism distinct from conventional processes such as in low spin state.

Molecular Mechanisms Underlying the Effect of Lipid Oxidation Products on Digestibility and Conformation of Myoglobin under Thermal Treatment
Lipid oxidation can produce lipid oxidation products (LOPs), which further react with proteins and affect their structure and digestibility, although the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Herein, we investigated the conformation and digestibility of proteins induced by LOPs after thermal treatment. Digestibility of myoglobin (Mb) affected by trans,trans,-2,4-decadienal (2,4-Dec) was significantly reduced under high temperature (100–180 °C).

Metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses reveal response mechanisms of juvenile flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) to sublethal methylmercury
1 Introduction Mercury (Hg) poses great threats to ecological environment and human health. Generally speaking, Hg compounds in ecosystems are mainly coming from anthropogenic sources, such as industrial emissions, mining, wastes combustion and agricultural materials (Ren et al., 2019b). Once entered into aquatic ecosystems, Hg could be continuously transformed into methylmercury (MeHg) through methylation process by methylated microorganisms (Yuan et al., 2019).
