KITCHENER — For 25 years, the Centre for Family Business has helped family-owned firms in Waterloo Region navigate the shoals of entrepreneurship. Next week, it’s holding a “Young Gen” mixer to give young people the chance to learn from seasoned Waterloo Region family businesses. The centre hopes the mixer, hosted at the family-owned Descendants Beer in Kitchener, will expand its membership and increase awareness about its services among younger entrepreneurs, said executive director Brian Bourke.

Afrofest returns to Waterloo after pandemic hiatus

WATERLOO — After cancelling its large-scale festival two years in a row due to COVID-19, Afrofest is returning to Waterloo this Labour Day weekend. Happening on Sept. 3 from 12-6 p.m. in Waterloo Park, the festival will celebrate various African cultures with live performances, artisan booths and food. Somalia, Nigeria and Sudan are some of the countries that will be featured at the festival. ”We are so happy for the return of Afrofest.

What was your first job as a journalist?

My first paying job was this past summer as a journalist for the Orangeville Banner via Torstar's Summer Student Journalism program.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I prefer to be emailed if an outlet thinks I am suitable to write a story. I am pretty quick with responses.

What's your favorite social network?

I like Twitter and Instagram equally. I love connecting with fellow journos on Twitter and the visual aspect of IG.
