What was your first job as a journalist?
My first full-time job: reporter for the "Hartford Neighborhoods" page of The Hartford Courant. Two stories a day, one brief, one photo.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes. My parents owned a big, heavy Underwood with keys that would jam. The inky mess taught me how to use Wite-out and edit carefully.
How is social media changing news?
Constant connection means immediate and ongoing discovery, delivery, correction and participation.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
What's your favorite social network?
Twitter, also known as that 140-bit black hole of time and space. Retweets = endorphins.
Who do you wish followed you?
All my former students.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I worked as a reporter for my rarely published high school newspaper, and was co-editor of my high school yearbook.
