TERT Promoter Variants, Older Age, and Prognosis in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma
TERT Promoter Variants, Older Age, and Prognosis in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma Key Points Question Is the association between older age and poor prognosis in papillary thyroid carcinoma explained by TERT promoter variants? Findings In this multi-institutional cohort study of 1555 patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma, the prevalence of TERT promoter variants increased progressively with age and was independently associated with higher disease-specific mortality.

Polygenic Score for Clinicopathologic Features and Survival Outcomes in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma
Polygenic Score for Clinicopathologic Features and Survival Outcomes in Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma Key Points Question Is germline genetic risk, as estimated using a polygenic score (PGS), associated with clinicopathologic characteristics and survival outcomes among patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC)?
Initial Management of BRAF V600E-Variant Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer
Abstract Importance BRAF/MEK inhibitors revolutionized the treatment of BRAF V600E-variant anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (BRAFv-ATC), offering improved outcomes for patients with this previously incurable disease. Observations Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) accounts for approximately half of thyroid cancer−related deaths.
A Review of Thyroid Cancer
A Review of Thyroid Cancer To the Editor A recent Review1 discussed exposure to ionizing radiation as a common risk factor for thyroid cancer. However, it is important to consider additional risk factors for thyroid cancer. Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs), a class of medications used to treat type 2 diabetes, are frequently prescribed to improve glycemic control and promote weight loss.
A Review of Thyroid Cancer
A Review of Thyroid Cancer To the Editor A recent Review1 discussed the complexity of thyroid cancer. First, we would like to highlight the importance of distinguishing between benign and malignant thyroid nodules preoperatively.
A Review of Thyroid Cancer-Reply
A Review of Thyroid Cancer—Reply In Reply We appreciate letters about our Review on thyroid cancer.1 In response to the comments by Drs Beheshtirouy and Shayanfar, the causal association between GLP-1 RA use and thyroid cancer is complex and requires careful consideration of factors that directly or indirectly influence carcinogenesis pathways such as the direct biological effects of the drug, host susceptibility factors (eg, obesity or proinflammatory states), biases embedded in clinical...

Larotrectinib Before Initial Radioactive Iodine Therapy in Pediatric TRK Fusion-Positive Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma: Time to Reconsider the Treatment Paradigm for Distantly Metastatic Disease? | JCO Precision Oncology
Introduction Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) diagnosed at a pediatric age (≤ 18 years), compared with its adult presentation, is associated with larger primary tumors, more extrathyroidal extension, and an increased prevalence of both locally and distantly metastatic (stage II) disease.1 Depending on the series, up to 25% of patients with pediatric PTC will develop pulmonary metastases.2-6 Stage II PTC diagnosed during childhood is enriched for oncogenic fusion genes primarily involving...

VideoEndocrinologyVol. 7, No. 4 Open AccessOpen Access license Justin Tran, BA Mark Zafereo, MD, FACS © 2020 Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. All rights reserved. Abstract Introduction: Lateral neck metastases occur in ~15% of papillary thyroid cancer and in ~40% of medullary thyroid cancer. We present herein a systematic approach to a standard comprehensive lateral neck dissection, with attention to specific areas where thyroid cancer lymph node metastases may be missed during surgery.
African Head and Neck Society Clinical Practice guidelines for thyroid nodules and cancer in developing countries and limited resource settings
Abstract Background International thyroid nodule and cancer management guidelines generally fail to take into account potential limitations in diagnostic and treatment resources. Methods Thyroid cancer specialists from the African Head and Neck Society and American Head & Neck Society Endocrine Section developed guidelines for diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules and cancer in low resource settings.

Adjuvant External Beam Radiotherapy in Locally Advanced Differentiated Thyroid Cancer
Question What is the role of radioactive iodine with or without external beam radiotherapy in patients with locally advanced differentiated thyroid cancer initially treated with surgery? Findings In this retrospective cohort study, 5-year disease free survival was 43% in patients undergoing radioactive iodine treatment alone, and 57% in patients undergoing radioactive iodine treatment and external beam radiotherapy, for a difference in survival of 14%.
