Unexpected response to this column: email from a paranormal investigator who wants to conduct thorough investigation of Old City Hall after the courts vacate. Should the city let his team check for ghosts?
But that infrastructure is hard/impossible to implement if you’re turning the street over to cars in the evening and on weekends.
Third one is really important. King St will work a lot better for everyone if designed to make restrictions for cars more obvious — curbs, barriers, bollards, proper signals. Way less confusion for drivers, way less need to post cops at every corner handing out tickets.
Why removing #KingStreetPilot restrictions evenings/weekends is bad: 1) Compliance — previous “rush hour only” lanes never enforced 2) Ridership — majority of TTC trips are off-peak 3) Infrastructure — after pilot, want to make perm street enhancements. Wider sidewalks, etc
