PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — After 12 years of serving a kaiseki-inspired tasting menu rooted in the Pacific Northwest, Portland chef Ryan Roadhouse has been named a finalist for a James Beard Award. The awards are often likened to the Oscars of the food world. Roadhouse said he was “blown away” by the recognition. “Just, you know, so grateful to [the] James Beard Foundation, but then also our community here...everyone supporting us,” he said.

(KATU) — The relationship between the United States and Venezuela has undergone significant changes over the past century, according to Reuben Zahler, an associate professor of history at the University of Oregon. Zahler explained that relations were historically positive, particularly in the 19th and 20th centuries, with Venezuela being one of the few Latin American countries where the U.S. did not heavily intervene during the Cold War.
