Plainfield — SMART Technologies has asked the Connecticut Siting Council to approve its proposed waste-to-energy trash plant without requiring the project to undergo the “full Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need process.” The 93-page petition filed with the Siting Council Friday includes the description of the proposed facility that would convert municipal solid waste into 45 megawatts of electric power and renewable natural gas.

Putnam church taking stock after weekend ceiling collapse | The Day

Putnam — The Congregational Church of Putnam on Main Street has said the ceiling of its sanctuary collapsed around 11 p.m. Friday. Photos shared by the church show large sections of the ceiling missing and piles of wood and debris on the floor. William Solomon, trustee of the church, said Monday the cause of the collapse is under investigation. He said the church is waiting for its insurance adjuster to assess the damages.
