Congruency effects in face recognition for masked perpetrators with real-life images

Abstract Recognising masked faces is a challenge in security contexts such as crowd surveillance and criminal investigations. Congruency-based approaches that emphasise the alignment between the encoded and retrieved facial features can improve masked face recognition. In two experiments (total N = 275), we tested how suboptimal viewing conditions, such as those encountered in real-world scenarios, can affect such congruency effects.

Abstract Objective: To examine the association between body mass index (BMI) standard deviation score (SDS) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) SDS and whether thyroid hormones mediate it, focusing on the peripheral conversion marker free triiodothyronine/free thyroxine (FT3/FT4) ratio, in prepubertal children (2.0–9.0 years) with height SDS < –1.0. Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study included 1,242 such children.

Abstract Immune checkpoint inhibitors, notably PD-1/PD-L1 monoclonal antibodies, are now used as first-line treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and have improved outcomes for some patients. Nevertheless, their response rate remains below 30%, largely due to HCC’s immunosuppressive microenvironment and insufficient T-cell infiltration. Strategies to address these limitations are urgently needed.
