Professor Michael Cowling has been a leader in educational technology for over 20 years and was the recipient of the Universities Australia 2020 AAUT Award for Teaching Excellence (Physical Sciences & Related Studies). He is currently a Professor in Computing Technologies in the STEM College at RMIT University, where he serves as Director, Hub for Apple Platform Innovation (HAPI), an Apple-focussed teaching/research space using novel computing platforms to create dynamic new experiences. We’ve all been there: lying on the sofa at an awkward angle, phone in hand, scrolling through reels. It’s so easy to lose track of time, and so hard to disconnect. Big tech has been hooking us on their products, and they can no longer deny it. Meta and Google recently lost a landmark court case in the United States. A jury ruled the firms deliberately designed their social media platforms to be addictive, resulting in real harm to the young plaintiff.

Northern Territory government puts $10 million into co-investment fund to back startups

A $20 million business investment fund has launched in the Northern Territory in a partnership between the government and Darwin investment firm Paspalis Corporation. The Territory government is tipping in $10 million through the Local Jobs Fund, matched by Paspalis, with funding of up to $5 million available for domestic and international businesses looking to set up shop in the Territory and and create new jobs.

You can call me 'Professor Tech', that's what the kids call me! But you don't have to. :)

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I'm old style, Microsoft Word or even Notepad work for me. As long as I can type into it, I'm happy.
