The church at 718 Church St. was built by German immigrants and was known as the Salem Chapel. It was used as a meeting hall for Eudora organizations until 2007, when it became a private residence. The old stone structure on the edge of downtown Eudora has a history of being unique: It started offering church services in German in 1870 and continued to do so until America’s entry into World War I.

Effects of hyperoxia on pulmonary inflammation and organ injury in a human in vivo model (HIPI): a randomised controlled trial
Discussion These prospective mechanistic data, derived from healthy adult subjects using a clinically relevant inhaled LPS challenge model, demonstrate that short-duration hyperoxia did not increase pulmonary inflammation despite exposure to an in vivo inflammatory stimulus. We selected BAL IL-8 as the primary outcome given its central role in neutrophil chemotaxis and early pulmonary inflammation.

OPINION: How ’Lawrencifying’ Hutchinson would encourage growth
By Michael Glenn Teen-age Dirtbag My last Hutchinson City Council meeting as a reporter was Tuesday, July 21. Most people would likely celebrate being taken off a city beat, especially one that can creep into the late hours of the night when there’s an unscheduled executive session. I can honestly say, this summer, I haven’t left city hall before the sun set for the night. Four-hour meetings tax the brain like none other.

We are also hosting a virtual Ask Me Anything with Stacy on the topic on August 11.

OPINION: All aboard the Kansas ultimate midnight train escapade
By Michael Glenn Teen-age Dirtbag “Chooooo chooooo.” Not a lick of wind shielded the train whistle’s harsh start into the Lawrence Station on a pleasantly mild Sunday night. The conductor seemed to throw the brakes at the last second as the steel-on-steel screeched to a halt. The clock struck 10:58 p.m. Two workers, one with a patterned blue tie, the other open-necked, shouted “ALL ABOARD” to the dozen or so people lined outside the sleepy superliner.

OPINION: A special Independence Day
By Mark Buckley Through My Eyes It was the summer of 1962; life was about to teach me a valuable lesson. Every summer about Father’s Day, we would leave our “big home” in Atchison and move to our cabin on Sugar Lake. Sugar Lake was a pretty lake located on the Missouri River bottoms about 4 miles east of Atchison. Those summers were wonderful, filled with swimming, fishing, exploring, and just fun. So, what made this summer different?
