Change is coming to high school basketball again for the upcoming 2026-27 season. As first reported by Tyler Jackson at Play Sheet Sports, the WVSSAC Board of Directors has signed off on recommendations suggested by the Basketball Advisory Committee to the Class AAA playoff format, added oversight of playoff voting and implemented a mercy rule component. First, the playoff format. Class AAA will follow in the footsteps of what Class AAAA did for the 2025-26 season.
