PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - It was a busy Fourth of July weekend for the Portland Police Bureau, with officers handling dozens of calls, including shootings, an attempted street takeover, and multiple downtown events. All this comes as the bureau is facing a staffing shortage. More than 100 calls for service were received by PPB over the holiday weekend, with no crews available to respond. According to Chief Bob Day, low staffing levels have increased response times and led to significant overtime.
