(WDBJ) - While beef prices at major grocery stores continue to rise, a local butcher shop says its prices have remained relatively steady — and the reason comes down to where the meat comes from. Yard Bull Meats opened in 2022. Owner Tyler Thomas said at the time, prices at the shop were higher than what customers would find at a major retailer. That gap has since narrowed as grocery store beef costs have climbed.

(WDBJ) - The first hay cutting of the season has revealed the toll of an ongoing drought on livestock farmers across the region, with some operations producing significantly less feed than normal. Tom Williamson, who has farmed since childhood, said his hay crop this year was between a third and a quarter less than usual, depending on the field. Other farmers have experienced even steeper losses.
