1 Introduction Forest soils are an important carbon (C) reservoir, representing more than 40% of the total C stored in terrestrial ecosystems (Lal 2005; Mayer et al. 2020; Pachauri and IPCC 2008). Preserving and increasing C stocks could help to mitigate the effects of global warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel combustion (Bossio et al. 2020; Masson-Delmotte et al. 2021). Several silvicultural practices can lead to better management of C stocks (Mayer et al. 2020).
