I have been playing video games for more than 25 years now, but I only started paying attention to my playtime for each game in recent years. A good portion of my gaming experience was before I had a Steam account, so tracking my time wasn’t as easy. But lately, I’ve been noticing and intrigued by the games I play for long durations. These are games that are excellent at retaining players, and much of the player base consists of people with long playtimes, often well over 1000 hours.

I’ve been playing video games for more than 25 years, so I can say I have a pretty decent knowledge of how video games of various genres work. But obviously, this wasn’t always the case. After playing simpler children’s games on an old Sega console, my family got a PC when I was around 10-years-old. This opened the door for a lot more complex and varied games that I had not experienced before.

What was your first job as a journalist?

We had a student-run zine back in college and I had an interview with one of my favorite game developers.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

My grandfather used to have a typewriter that I used to play with before I even knew how to write. I wish I had one now!

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Microsoft Word and Google Docs are my primary tools for writing.
