Judge denies bond for 18-year-old murder suspect, woman accused of helping him after shooting

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) - A Rankin County judge denied bond Tuesday for 18-year-old Ladarious Harrison and 46-year-old Semiko Crump in connection with the deadly shooting of Idarrious Bowie, who was also known as DD. Harrison is charged with murder. Crump is charged with accessory after the fact. Semiko Crump and Ladarious Harrison(WLBT) Both were already out on bond for separate felony charges at the time of the shooting. Harrison was out on bond for an attempted murder charge.

Atmospheric water generator produces drinking water from thin air in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Clean, safe drinking water made from thin air is now a reality in Jackson. An atmospheric water generator produces more than 1,200 gallons of freshwater every day. The machine captures humidity from the air and cools it down to create liquid water. The water then goes through three stages of filtration, making it pure and safe to drink. Public Service Commissioner De’Keither Stamps believes the technology could be a solution for Jackson’s water problems.

Mississippi students among top performers in nation, new study shows Original

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Mississippi students are among the top performers in the country, according to a new study. The 2026 Kids Count Data Book ranks Mississippi 16th in the nation for education. This marks the second year in a row the state has held this ranking. “Ranked 16th in the nation, we’ll take it any day, any time,” said Dr. Darein Spann, president of the Mississippi Association of Educators.
