Celebrating 250 years of independence
I had the chance to visit Boston for the first time last week and walk the Freedom Trail through one of the most historic cities in our country. I stood at the Old State House, where the Declaration of Independence received one of its earliest public readings on July 18, 1776, just weeks after it was adopted in Philadelphia. Standing on that spot, I thought about how differently that document is treated today than it was by the people who first heard it read aloud.

Medicaid fraud hurts all Idahoans. Here’s how I’m fighting it | Opinion Original
Over the past year, Americans have gotten a clearer picture of how their government spends their money. DOGE brought long overdue attention to waste and mismanagement, and this past March President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud. The results have come quickly: 8,000 active fraud cases at the Department of Justice, hundreds of fraudulent providers suspended, and hundreds of millions in Medicaid payments paused in Minnesota alone.
Jim Jones’ credibility problems are hard to ignore
Credibility is not a lifetime appointment. It is earned through accuracy, honesty and reliability. When those are missing, past titles and reputation are not enough. For years, Jim Jones has relied on former titles to portray himself as a neutral legal authority while advancing claims that are not merely debatable, but repeatedly and demonstrably false. Yet Idaho newspapers continue to publish his opinions as though they still carry unquestioned authority. Recent history suggests otherwise.
Secret climate agenda is driving up your energy costs
Three private companies control roughly 95% of the global credit rating market. Their job is to assess how financially healthy a company is and assign it a rating. Investors, pension funds, businesses and governments rely on those ratings to decide where to put their money, trusting that the analysis behind them is honest and objective.

Supreme Court should restore original understanding of birthright citizenship
For over a century, America has operated under an interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment’s Citizenship Clause that many now believe is the only constitutionally permissible reading. Automatic citizenship for anyone born on American soil, regardless of their parents’ legal status, has become so accepted that courts have treated it as settled law. Even I agreed with this interpretation for a while.
Attorney General announces judgment against vacation scam company
Attorney General Raúl Labrador announced today a judgment and injunction against Arenal Outdoor Center and owner Keith Craig Fletcher in a consumer protection lawsuit. But Fletcher’s dubious history extends beyond consumer protection violations. Fletcher has a long history of customer and employee complaints alleging unrefunded vacation packages, bounced checks, not carrying required insurance, and not paying payroll taxes.
Attorney General Labrador defeats Satan, again Original
BOISE — Attorney General Raúl Labrador won a unanimous Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals victory affirming dismissal of The Satanic Temple's federal lawsuit challenging Idaho's Defense of Life Act. The three-judge panel upheld a district court ruling that dismissed the case for lack of standing. “I will always defend Idaho's laws that protect families and preserve the sanctity of life,” said Attorney General Labrador.

Sentence ensure Kohberger won't hurt anyone else
This week, Bryan Kohberger received four consecutive life sentences for the November 2022 murders of University of Idaho students Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin. Under Idaho law, these fixed sentences mean Kohberger will never be eligible for parole and will die in prison. With this sentencing, a painful chapter closes in one of the darkest moments in our state's history.
Opinion: One state's bold fight against classroom indoctrination targets woke 'welcome' signs
This spring, an Idaho teacher displayed a sign in her classroom that read, “Everyone Is Welcome Here.” On its face, the message appears neutral — simple, positive words that seem apolitical. But the design reveals its true purpose: colorful letters above imagery designed to signal adherence to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The rainbow colors and progressive symbols accompanying these messages make their political purpose unmistakable.
Supreme Court tees up perfect chance to fully protect women’s sports
This article was first published in The Hill In 2019, the University of Montana allowed a runner named June Eastwood, a biological male who had adopted a female identity, to compete against women. Among Eastwood’s competitors were two young women attending Idaho State University, Madison Kenyon and Mary Kate Marshall, who were unjustly defeated by Eastwood on multiple occasions.

Defending Biological Reality in Federal Corrections Policy
How transgender-identifying individuals are housed in federal prisons is not a theoretical question. It directly affects the safety, privacy, and dignity of inmates, particularly women. Under the Biden administration, federal agencies were instructed to disregard biological sex and could instead classify inmates based solely on how they self-identified.
Following Supreme Court order, Idaho remains committed to protecting life Original

Idaho’s law is designed to save women’s lives. Biden is pushing a false narrative | Opinion Original
Women in Idaho deserve the best possible medical care and their lives should always be protected. Full stop. My office recently defended our Defense of Life Act before the U.S. Supreme Court against the Biden administration’s attempt to finagle federal law to override Idaho’s law that explicitly protects both the lives of women and their unborn children.
Idahoans have chosen to protect life. Biden is trying to stop us.
In his 2021 inaugural address, President Biden remarked, “The will of the people has been heard, and the will of the people has been heeded. We have learned again that democracy is precious.” Then, a year later, this self-declared unifier sued my state for exercising democracy. Idaho passed the Defense of Life Act in 2020 to protect the lives of women and their unborn children. The law officially became enforceable in June 2022, when the Supreme Court ruled Dobbs v.
The American dream is in peril
For over a decade, I practiced immigration law. As someone born in Puerto Rico who was raised by a single mom, I lived the American dream, and it brought me great joy to help clients secure their chance to achieve it. When I represented Idaho in Congress, I continually promoted the importance of legal immigration and the need to modernize our immigration system.
Criticizing me for hiring the ADF is unfair. Idaho citizens deserve the best defense | Opinion Original
Winston Churchill is often credited with the famous aphorism, “History is written by the winners.” Although the aphorism is right, some Idaho news outlets mistakenly believe history is written by the whiners. Over the last 12 months, the same political critics who opposed my election continue to be quoted by the press with personal and petty criticisms that aren’t grounded in the law but based entirely on bias and animus.

Governments need tools to address homelessness
This week, another issue with Idaho roots was added to the docket of the U.S. Supreme Court. SCOTUS will be hearing the case of City of Grants Pass v. Gloria Johnson, which deals with local government’s ability to regulate public spaces relating to homeless camping. I led a coalition of 20 other states in support of the request for SCOTUS to take up this case in the hopes of getting some relief for these local governments as they struggle to address problems in their public spaces.
Federal Appeals Court Reverses Block on Idaho's Abortion Law Enforcement
BOISE - A federal appeals court has overturned a prior lower court decision that had blocked Idaho from enforcing Section 622, the state's abortion law. On Thursday, a three-judge panel of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a unanimous order granting Idaho's request to temporarily suspend the injunction. At the same time, the State of Idaho pursues an appeal against the District Court's ruling.
I charted my own path on the WOTUS challenge, despite criticism. And I was right | Opinion Original
The Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rules proposed by the Biden administration are overreaching, extreme, and, if implemented in Idaho, harmful to our economy and freedoms. The Biden administration not only brought the Obama rule back — but expanded it. Now, nearly every droplet of water in the U.S. could be controlled and regulated by the federal government. The Biden WOTUS rules would subject Idaho citizens to massive federal overreach on their own land and hamper Idaho job creators.
Far-right theater is playing out at Idaho Legislature
JONES: If Idaho voters are dismayed by the legislative spectacle this year, they may have a real chance for a new attraction that would appeal to a wider audience: Traditional Based upon a preview of the coming attractions that will play at the Idaho statehouse this legislative session, it appears there will be an excess of needless drama, bombastic performances, senseless ad-libbing and failed plotlines.Speaking of failed plotlines, Sen.Based upon a preview of the coming attractions that...

A stronger voice for Idaho Attorney General
“Career Bureaucrat Attempts to Defend Career Bureaucrat” could be the headline for Jim Jones’ guest opinion attacking my efforts to bring a stronger voice to the Idaho Attorney General’s office (“How to wreck the Idaho Attorney General’s Office,” published March 23). Jones has attacked me so many times that Lawrence Wasden should report his hit pieces as an in-kind campaign contribution.

Give the American Dream to Idaho’s children with school choice
From January 24 through 30, National School Choice Week provides an opportunity to celebrate Idaho’s creative school choices and encourage more innovation in K-12 learning. Looking back, when I served as a state and federal lawmaker, I had to vote on all types of domestic and foreign policy issues. But improving our education system was more than an abstract or foreign concept, it was a mission and a calling. I know firsthand how vital a quality education is for breaking down societal barriers.

Labrador responds to COVID-19 stories: Stop shaming Idahoans over masks
In an effort to win a Pulitzer Prize, the Idaho Statesman published a ridiculous story about me not wearing a mask at the mall. It was based on a Twitter thread about the picture that a random stranger took of me. The in-depth reporting relied solely on the man’s story even after admitting that he only saw me for a few seconds that day. The Statesman reporter called to ask about the picture.

Guest opinion: Excited to lead the Idaho Republican Party into 2020
It is a great honor and privilege to lead the Idaho Republican Party. Republican leadership in the White House and across Idaho have ushered in an unprecedented era of growth, opportunity, and prosperity. The 2020 election is a pivotal time for America and I am humbled that my party is entrusting me with this tremendous responsibility.
It’s official. Raul Labrador hopes to serve as Idaho GOP chairman, support Trump’s re-election
BOISE — After weeks of speculation, former Idaho U.S. Congressman and state legislator Raul Labrador has officially announced his candidacy for Idaho Republican Party chairman. Labrador said in an email sent to the Republican central committee on Tuesday that he has been “asked repeatedly in the past few months to consider a more active role in the Idaho State Republican Party.” “After prayerful consideration, I feel the time is now and I am enthusiastically pursuing this opportunity,” he wrote.
Prop 1 stands on questionable grounds and questionable messages
I have had the privilege of serving the people of this great state for 12 years. From the Capitol in Boise to the halls of Congress in Washington, I can spot a bad deal for the Gem State from a mile away. That is why I am voting “no” on Proposition 1 this November and you should too. After reading the measure, I can tell voters that Prop 1 is about the legalization and expansion of gambling throughout Idaho, not about saving horse racing, providing money to our schools or helping our communities.
Labrador: U.S. has to stop encouraging migrants to avoid detention by bringing children
The pictures of migrant children being separated from their parents at the border are heartbreaking. But what I find even more heartbreaking is the entire humanitarian crisis at the southern border. The root of the crisis is lax enforcement of our immigration laws, a problem that didn’t start under President Trump. In fact, the biggest reason for the crisis is that previous administrations pursued a “catch and release” policy for those seeking asylum after illegally crossing our borders.
Raul Labrador: Idaho is ready for a governor who will get government out of the way
I love Idaho! I am in awe of its majestic mountains, beautiful rivers and streams, never-ending rich farm lands, rugged canyons and stunning views. But more importantly, I am in awe of the people of Idaho! Idahoans are strong, resilient, innovative, kind and very compassionate people. Idaho is a wonderful place to live and work but I believe it is ready and anxious to soar into the future.
Goodbye old federal tax system, hello productivity, wage and job growth
April 17 is the last day that taxes will be paid under the more complicated old federal tax system that takes more of your hard-earned income. When you file next year, rate reductions will be among the more clearly felt benefits of tax reform.

@MEPFuller Matt - you know better than this. They are not offering to give Trump money for the wall, they are offering authorizing (not appropriating) money for the wall. Promising money in the future for DACA today is an empty promise.
