Earning a bib to run the Boston Marathon is hard. On Wednesday, the Boston Athletic Association said it would make the process a smidge easier. The association announced it would implement a “Boston Qualifier Selection” for 2027, a lottery for 1,000 runners who qualified for the storied race but didn’t meet the cut-off time. The lottery provides a glimmer of hope for the very capable runners who don’t meet the ever-tightening cut-off time for the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston.

I was a reporter in Wilmington, Mass. Nothing ever happened there, so I always included all raccoon-related calls in the weekly police log.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yeah, though not professionally. I was on a typewriter through high school. I think about getting one now, but that would be obnoxious.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

It's hard not to love Michael Keaton as Henry Hacket in The Paper. Or pretty much any other character from The Paper.
