In January - State lawmakers converged on Austin to gavel in for the 88th Legislature. During normal legislative years - they'd only be under the dome for 140 days, give or take. But as KRLD's Robyn Geske explains - because of one particular issue - the 88th session is still going on. During the previous special sessions this year, lawmakers were able to agree on several border security measures and a bill that contained the largest tax cut in state history for homeowners.

Capital murder suspect involved in shooting that injured Dallas police officer released from hospital, taken into custody

The man who was shot by police during an arrest earlier this month is finally out of the hospital and in the Dallas County jail. 20-year-old Jordan Owens was critically injured after getting into a shootout with a task force that was making an arrest on a capital murder warrant. An officer was also wounded but is recovering. Owens was wanted for a murder that happened the day before and about a mile away. Owens faces eight felony charges and is held on a $1.5 million bond.

Search continues for two escaped Fannin County inmates

The search continues for a pair of inmates who escaped the Fannin County Jail on Saturday, authorities say. On Nov. 25 around 11 p.m., two inmates, Raymond Ross and Ramon Perez, were seen running into a wooded area near the Fannin County Jail in Bonham, the Fannin County Office of Emergency Management said. Both men were wearing prison issue grey sweats at the time. Ross was in custody for evading arrest and some drug offenses, and Perez was in custody for aggravated assault with a child.
