GFIM turnover hits GH₵1.41 billion on Friday

Trading on the Ghana Fixed Income Market (GFIM) reached GHS 1.41 billion across 448 deals on Friday, with restructured government bonds and Treasury bills accounting for almost all the activity. Bonds issued under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) led the day at GHS 544.4 million from 58 trades. Treasury bills came a close second by value at GHS 533.7 million, though they were by far the busiest by count, changing hands 349 times.

GFIM trading jumps 42% to GH₵5.94 billion

Trading on the Ghana Fixed Income Market (GFIM) climbed 42% to GHS 5.94 billion last week, led by Treasury bills and government bonds. The turnover marked a sharp rise from the GHS 4.18 billion recorded a week earlier, a gain of 42.11%. Treasury bills did the heavy lifting at about GHS 2.93 billion, up roughly a quarter, while bonds issued under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) more than tripled to around GHS 1.60 billion. Sell and buy back (SBB) trades held steady near GHS 1.37 billion.

Air Cargo Rates Hold 35% Above Year-Ago Levels

Average worldwide air cargo rates are running about 35 percent higher than a year ago, reaching 3.29 dollars a kilo in late May even as volumes softened, analyst WorldACD says. In the week of 25 to 31 May, the global rate edged up 2 percent on the preceding fortnight, against 2.45 dollars a kilo at the same point last year. Demand told a quieter story: chargeable weight slipped 1 percent over the same two weeks and was essentially flat on the year, up just 1 percent.
