Research on anti-dislocation technologies for tunnels crossing active faults considering fault heterogeneity
Abstract Active faults are widely distributed in China and severely restrict the construction and safe operation of transportation tunnels, as fault dislocation easily induces uneven deformation, stress concentrations and structural damage to tunnel linings. Most existing relevant studies oversimplify fault zones as homogeneous rock mass, which fails to reflect real geological conditions and reduces the accuracy of tunnel mechanical responses.
Bioadhesive Hydrogel With Polyphenol-Armored Nanogene Rejuvenates Chondrocyte Senescence for Aged Osteoarthritis Therapy
1 Introduction Osteoarthritis (OA) is an age-driven degenerative joint disease with a markedly increased prevalence in individuals over 65 years of age [1, 2]. It poses significant challenges to personal health, along with socioeconomic burdens. Chondrocyte senescence is a distinctive feature in aged OA and is recognized as a critical risk factor for disease development [3-5].
Androgen activity in the male embryonic hindbrain drives lethal PFA ependymoma
|
Abstract Posterior fossa type A (PFA) ependymoma is an unusual infantile brain tumour with few known somatic mutations, thought to be driven by epigenetic mechanisms1. PFA ependymoma has a markedly higher incidence and worse prognosis in male children than in female children2. The mechanisms that underlie these sex differences are at present unknown. Here we show that the cellular hierarchy of PFA ependymoma is less differentiated in male individuals than it is in female individuals.

Wide dynamic laser ranging based on diode laser and photon-counting techniques
Abstract Ultrafast diode laser and photon-counting techniques were united to solve the trade-off between the dynamic range and high precision in the time of flight (TOF) laser ranging. Based on the direct time of flight (D-TOF) laser ranging method, we developed a wide dynamic laser ranging system.
Control of brain tumor growth by reactivating myeloid cells with niacin
An old vitamin’s new tricks Although innate immune cells are typically present inside tumors, they often have an inactive phenotype such that they are ineffective at killing the cancer cells or even promote tumor growth. Sarkar et al. discovered that it may be possible to reprogram these cells to a more active type using niacin (vitamin B3). The authors showed that niacin-exposed monocytes can inhibit the growth of brain tumor–initiating cells.

Reduced cortical microvascular oxygenation in multiple sclerosis: a blinded, case-controlled study using a novel quantitative near-infrared spectroscopy method : Scientific Reports
The microvascular saturation (S O ) in the control population was comparable to a previous study using similar NIRS equipment11 (64 ± 3% in our study vs. 63 ± 5% mean ± S.D), indicating the reproducibility of the measurements. The fact that S O is reduced in SPMS and high disability RRMS patients provides strong evidence for abnormal physiology in GM. It is supportive, although not conclusive, that some level of hypoxia exists.
