MADISON, Ala. (WAFF) - A local nonprofit is mentoring young people during National Gun Violence Awareness Month in an effort to help keep them safe. The Jarrod Michael Lockett Foundation’s mission is to prevent young people in the Valley from falling victim to gun violence. Justin Lockett started the foundation after losing his brother to gun violence. He said prevention starts with positive conversations and that parents need to talk with their children about gun safety.

New judge takes over Madison HOA geese case

MADISON, Ala. (WAFF) - A new judge will preside over a case involving a Madison HOA’s attempt to exterminate hundreds of geese. A lawsuit was recently filed against the Heritage Plantation subdivision in an attempt to stop the killing of the geese. The HOA received permission to kill the geese before July 1, citing the birds as a nuisance to the neighborhood. The previous judge recused himself because his spouse works with the HOA president. A hearing date has not been set.

Helen Keller Festival organizers seek volunteers in Tuscumbia
