New video the NBC10 Investigators obtained of a former Massachusetts State Police trooper’s use of excessive force is raising questions about how the law enforcement agency handled the case internally. Considering the incident happened years ago, some people might wonder, Why are we just hearing about this now? Back in the fall semester of 2024, I was teaching a journalism class at Boston University.

‘There is love out there': Community mourns man after MBTA escalator death

About 50 people gathered to mourn the loss of a man who died after getting caught in an escalator inside an MBTA station in Somerville, Massachusetts. As the NBC10 Boston Investigators first reported, Steven McCluskey was at the bottom of the moving escalator for more than 20 minutes before an MBTA employee at the Davis Square station responded to the scene.

Did MBTA violate law by not reporting escalator death to oversight agencies?

The state and federal agencies in charge of MBTA oversight did not learn a man had died after getting caught in an escalator at the Davis Square T station in Somerville until earlier this month. That’s according to a spokesperson with the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, which oversees the safety of equipment and operations for the T.
