12 States just forced Hollywood’s biggest merger to hit Pause

Paramount Skydance reached an agreement on Friday afternoon with 12 state attorneys general to postpone its proposed merger with Warner Bros. Discovery until June 1, 2027, or five days after a trial–whichever comes first. The announcement comes after a day after a federal judge  granted a two-week extension on a temporary restraining order, pausing the mega-merger until at least August 17.

Judge extends TRO as Paramount seeks three-day evidentiary hearing on merger

Update:  A federal judge on Thursday issued a two-week extension to a temporary restraining order granted earlier in the week in the antitrust lawsuit brought by a coalition of state attorneys general to stop the Paramount Skydance-Warner Bros. Discovery merger. The extended TRO would be in effect until August 17. A hearing date of August 3 was originally set to consider a preliminary injunction, which was also requested.

In an early national win for a coalition of state attorneys general seeking to stop the controversial $110 billion Paramount Skydance-Warner Bros. Discovery merger, a federal judge on Monday granted a temporary restraining order to put the acquisition on pause for 14 days. While Paramount faces legal challenges in the U.S., internationally it was a different story.
