LACOMBE, La. (CNN) - A Louisiana man drowned trying to rescue his grandchild after she fell into a lake in Covington, officials said. The man was identified as Chris Rushing, and he worked for the city’s Department of Cultural Arts and Events. “For him to actually move up into that threshold into the eyes of the community, that was a big deal,” said Councilman Jimmy Inman. Rushing would have seen his hard work come to life for Friday’s Fourth of July festivities in Covington.
