Christopher M. Kramer, MD The large, double-blind, 2x2 factorial study showed that neither colchicine nor spironolactone were beneficial in the acute MI population. I am not necessarily surprised by the spironolactone results. If these patients don’t have frank HF, they may have asymptomatic LV dysfunction, and they are well-treated with other medications such as ACE inhibitors and statins.
