Adding milk to tea can reduce its antioxidant levels by 11% to 75%. Skim milk reduces tea’s antioxidant levels more than whole or semi-skim milk. Plant milks with lower protein content have a smaller impact on tea’s antioxidants than cow’s milk. Tea is the world’s most popular drink, next to water, and it’s common to add a splash (or more) of milk to offset its strong flavor. But if you drink tea specifically for its antioxidant benefits, adding milk may lower its antioxidant activity.
