Restaurant Fundraiser Held For Des Moines Public Schools

(Des Moines, IA) -- Thursday is the first ever Dine Out for the Des Moines Public Schools. It's a fundraiser at 16 area restaurants, with 10% of the proceeds going to Des Moines public school students. The delivery service, Eat Futi, will also donate a dollar for each delivery order. The fundraiser is being held by the D-M-P-S Foundation, which provides financial support to teachers for things like books, field trips, guest speakers and extracurricular programs. A second date is planned in the fall.

Report Shows Link Between Pesticides, Nitrates And Iowa Cancer Rates Original

A new report on cancer in Iowa shows that impact of the use of common pesticides may be similar to smoking. Iowa ranks #2 for cancer rates in the US. The data was complied by the Iowa Environmental Council and Harkin Institute. It found the three most common pesticides used in Iowa (glyphosate, acetochlor and atrazine) cause an increased risk of cancer. Iowa's pesticide use is significantly higher than other states.

Dine Out For DMPS Set For March 26

(Des Moines, IA) -- Thursday, March 26, a unique fundraiser kicks off to raise money for Des Moines Public Schools. All you have to do, is go out to eat. It's called Dine Out for DMPS.
