The Senate finally walks the walk on government shutdowns
OPINION: Government shutdowns cause nothing but pain for most Americans. Our national park rangers, FBI agents and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention scientists work without pay. Airports begin to resemble the game room at a psych ward. And our economy loses an estimated $15 billion a week in gross domestic product. For some politicians, though, government shutdowns can be a win-win.
Democrats’ anti-ICE tantrum leaves Republicans with one option going forward
By Sen. John Kennedy R-Louisiana For more than 70 days, Senate Democrats claimed that they shut down the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) because they wanted to reform Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). It’s clear now that they shut down DHS out of fear of their own voters.

Reconciliation bill will enhance Medicaid, not harm it
By Sen. John Kennedy R-Louisiana Some people in Washington enjoy scaring Americans to score political points. The current debate on Medicaid is a prime example. Since President Donald Trump signed the 2025 reconciliation bill, which some call the One Big Beautiful Bill, into law, those opposing the legislation, mostly Democrats, have been telling anyone who will listen that the new law will cut Medicaid benefits to Americans in need.

Chronic absenteeism is a crisis in Georgia
When one in five children in Georgia is chronically absent from school, we’re not just facing an education challenge — we’re confronting a crisis that touches every corner of our state. Students who miss 10% or more of the school year aren’t just falling behind in the classroom — they’re missing out on the very foundation of a prosperous future.
SCOTUS Must Step In To End Universal Injunctions
Supreme Court will hear arguments to decide whether individual district court judges can unilaterally stop the federal government from enforcing a law or policy nationwide. Source link
Congress must help Trump administration hold IMF accountable
OPINION: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently argued that the United States must play a bigger role in global multinational organizations such as the International Monetary Fund, not a smaller role. He’s right, and Congress needs to join in this effort. For several years, the IMF has acted more like a social justice fan club than a financial institution.
Congress must support parents who protect their children from irreversible gender procedures Original
Editor's note: The following guest column was submitted by Republican U.S. Sen. John Kennedy to the Louisiana USA Today Network. Those who advocate for minors to be able to change genders believe powerful medications and surgery are the only way to help gender dysphoric children. Most parents in Louisiana, however, believe that irreversible medical procedures could harm these children in the future if they change their minds about changing their sex.
To raise real wages, Biden admin must make New Year’s resolution to stop reckless spending
If recent polling is any indication, the American people are hoping President Biden’s New Year’s resolution will be to stop promoting bad policies that drive up prices and lower their quality of life. kAm$@>6 2E E96 (9:E6 w@FD6[ 9@H6G6C[ 36=:6G6 E96 p>6C:42? Sen. John Kennedy: U.S. must take a clear stand with Israel in fight to eliminate Hamas
So far, the United States is standing by Israel in its fight against Hamas, but some in Washington seem confused as to why we would do that. I’ve seen a lot of hand-wringing from folks who pretend that there’s some nuance we need to apply to the terrorist attacks of Oct. 7 before we can condemn Hamas and hold its supporters accountable. Many people promoting this idea believe that Israel got what it deserved. These people apparently believe in diversity, equity, inclusion and the right to kill Jews.
SEC’s Consolidated Audit Trail is a disaster waiting to happen
The Securities and Exchange Commission is supposed to protect investors , not stalk them. However, under a new regulation, the SEC has paved the way for the federal agency to follow an investor’s every move. Here’s just a bit of the information the SEC is forcing brokers to fork over: their customers’ full names, birth years, addresses, which stocks they bought, which stocks they sold, and when those transactions occurred.
Sen. John Kennedy: Don't let Washington sink Louisiana businesses with soft-on-crime policies Original
Starting a business is one of the riskiest decisions one can make. Entrepreneurs embrace that risk because they love what they do, the people they work with, and the customers they serve. But today, many Louisiana business owners face risks far beyond their comfort levels. Violent crime has made it untenable for many business owners to keep their doors open. The threat to their employees and customers is just too great.
Education's Tea Party has arrived
Earlier this month, I spent the weekend at the Moms for Liberty “Joyful Warrior” summit in Philadelphia, which made national news by attracting a gaggle of leading GOP presidential contenders as speakers, including Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump. No mean feat for an organization that didn’t even exist during the last presidential campaign.
Is Biden’s new student loan scheme any more legal than the one quashed by the Supreme Court? Probably not
A few weeks after the Supreme Court disabused President Joe Biden of the notion that he could unilaterally cancel $430 billion in student loans , Biden has now announced that his administration will instead cancel $39 billion in student debt held by 800,000 borrowers. Under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, the resulting cancellations would be tax-free.
Harvard Law professor forgets why judicial review exists
G.K. Chesterton, that extraordinary author and philosopher, once told a story about a fence blocking a road. Two people approach it, and the first says, “I don’t see the use of this; let us clear it away.” The second person, however, is smarter and says, “If you don’t see the use of it, I won’t let you clear it away.” The point being that there may be a very good reason that the fence exists, even if you can’t see it.
Don't take parenting advice from the media
I wrote last week about how legacy media is the enemy of all good and decent things in our society, but their consistently horrific advice to parents is truly something to behold. This week NBC News medical fellow Akshay Syal discussed the epidemic of childhood obesity , which affects one in five Americans aged 2 to 19. While this problem is correctly diagnosed, the prescription should not surprise you: Drugs .
Capping the price of insulin will save all Americans money
More than one in 10 Americans live with diabetes, and many of them cannot afford the insulin they need to stay out of the emergency room. For years now, Congress has nibbled around the edges of insulin affordability rather than addressing the issue directly. This failure to act results in needless suffering and financial stress for families living with diabetes, and it saddles the American taxpayer with billions of dollars in related healthcare spending.
Keep your friends close and your bureaucrats closer
If the president resigned tomorrow, his government would hardly notice. The federal government today is administered by a combination of career civil servants at the agencies and their counterparts within the sprawling White House bureaucracy. Our executive branch runs on autopilot. That’s why, in all likelihood, President Joe Biden was telling the truth when he said he found out about the indictment of former President Donald Trump on the news.

(BASF) Alamo, Texas is once again home to the first bale of the 2023 cotton season. Wesley Vanderpool, who also had the first bale in 2022, harvested on Tuesday, June 20 after planting Stoneville variety 4990B3XF on February 7. Vanderpool’s harvested bale was then ginned at Willacy Co-Op Gin in Sebastian, Texas. For the last 10 years, harvest bales have come from BASF cottonseed varieties.
Cotton Acres Could Be the Biggest Surprise in USDA’s June Acreage Report
Last summer, sentiments across the Texas Panhandle were sinking. From gin operators to cotton farmers, the drought was drowning out any optimism area farmers had left. Nearly a year later, the story is dramatically different, with rains impacting the ability for farmers to plant all their intended cotton acres. USDA’s 2023 Prospective Plantings report released on March 31 showed farmers intend to plant 11.3 million acres of cotton this year, which is down 18% from 2022.

Cost and return estimates are reported for the United States and major production regions for corn, soybeans, wheat, cotton, grain sorghum, rice, peanuts, oats, barley, milk, hogs, and cow-calf. These cost and return accounts are “historical” accounts based on the actual costs incurred by producers.

Scrutiny of Land Purchases by Foreigners Proposed in New Bill
USDA and the FDA would become members of a powerful U.S. committee that rules on the national security implications of foreign ownership of U.S. assets under a bipartisan Senate bill unveiled on Tuesday. The legislation would also empower the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), led by the Treasury, to consider retroactive divestment of real estate owned by foreign entities.

Sen. John Kennedy: Louisianians deserve better than Biden’s gas hikes Original
News Sports Obituaries Legals USA TODAY OPINION Sen. John Kennedy Most Louisianians get up every day, go to work, obey the law, pay their taxes, and try to save a little money for retirement while living in the greatest country in all of human history. But Louisianians are struggling under the Biden administration’s war on American energy.
Nuclear energy is key to America’s economic and geopolitical future
Louisianians are facing rising energy prices at the same time as falling temperatures this winter. Meanwhile, President Joe Biden is pursuing policies that would further cripple the U.S. energy industry and the economy that depends on it, like flirting with shuttering the Line 5 pipeline. Our chief executive wants to shackle America with climate commitments that could make life unnecessarily hard for Americans struggling to pay energy bills under record inflation.
Op-ed: An easy win for Biden — don't send stimulus checks to dead people
Federal stimulus checks are prepared for printing at the Philadelphia Financial Center. Jeff Fusco | Getty Images News | Getty Images At a time when the national debt is $27 trillion—the largest it's ever been—the least we can do is make sure that government relief payments are going to people who need them most. Unfortunately, too much of that money is ending up in the hands of fraudsters who capitalize on the deaths of their fellow Americans. The problem isn't new.
Why it is time to break up the insiders club that regulates the $4 trillion muni-bond market
Jonathan Bachman/Getty Images Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy For a self-regulatory group that oversees a $4 trillion (that’s 12 zeroes) municipal-bond market that finances public projects across the United States, the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board has all the trappings of an insular Wall Street eating club. The MSRB director made $1.05 million last year. The chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission only makes $165,300.
Sens. Kennedy and Sinema: Stop silencing sexual harassment victims
The #MeToo movement shined a light on sexual assault, harassment, and discrimination in Hollywood, the halls of Congress, workplaces, and college campuses. The movement has empowered countless survivors and provided opportunities for them to hold perpetrators accountable. But more must be done. That is why we introduced the bipartisan Stop Silencing Victims Act.
Sen. John McCain Died 9 Years to the Day After Sen. Ted Kennedy — of the Same Cancer
Sen. John McCain and Sen. Ted Kennedy, leaders in the Senate on opposite sides of the aisle, died exactly nine years apart of the same cancer. Sen. McCain died of glioblastoma on Saturday at age 81, and Sen. Kennedy died of the disease on the same day, August 25, in 2009 at age 77, according to TIME. Beau Biden, former vice president Joe Biden‘s son, also died of glioblastoma in 2015 at age 46.
American taxpayers deserve an audit of the Federal Reserve
A few years after the 2008 financial collapse, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) got a rare opportunity to peek behind the curtain at the Federal Reserve. Although the review was limited in scope, the GAO was able to audit the agency's emergency loan programs. What it found was troubling to say the least. This rare audit found conflicts of interest and no-bid contracts.
Sen. John Kennedy: 'Please stop having children you aren't willing to raise'
Imagine that you’re the parents of four children under the age of eight. Your home is strewn with stuffed animals and sippy cups. And, if you’re a couple named Colby and Lacey (a real couple from Utah), you keep drug paraphernalia next to the bassinet and smoke heroin in front of your children. For the life of me, I don’t know why anyone who is an addict would decide to become a parent and bring an innocent child into his or her sick drug den.
Compassion Int'l Among Thousands Forced Out of India: We Must Speak Up for Religious Liberty
The views expressed by the author do not necessarily reflect the editorial opinion of The Christian Post or its editors. "I believe that the most essential element of our defense of freedom is our insistence on speaking out for the cause of religious liberty.
