Fatty acid metabolism controls plasma membrane cholesterol accessibility via ATGL-dependent phospholipid remodeling
Abstract Accessible cholesterol, the pool of membrane cholesterol with high chemical activity, regulates vital processes including vertebrate development and pathogen evasion. The mechanisms that govern plasma membrane (PM) cholesterol accessibility are incompletely understood. Using a genome-wide screen we find that acetyl-CoA carboxylase alpha (ACC1) loss causes a ~10-fold increase in PM accessible cholesterol in cells and a male mouse model.
Spinons, solitons and random-singlet-like behaviours in the spin-chain compound copper benzoate
Abstract The S = 1/2 Heisenberg antiferromagnetic chain is a paradigmatic quantum system hosting exotic excitations. Using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) on copper benzoate, we characterise three distinct types of excitations by tuning the magnetic field at ultra-low temperatures. At 0.2 T, a nearly constant spin-lattice relaxation rate (1/T1) and a divergence-like spin-spin relaxation rate (1/T2G) upon cooling provide experimental evidence for spinon excitations.

Spermidine attenuates copper overload-induced cuproptosis in porcine granulosa cells through the miR-194a-5p/DLAT axis
Abstract Excess copper disrupts mitochondrial metabolism by triggering cuproptosis, a regulated cell-death program characterized by the aggregation of lipoylated tricarboxylic acid cycle proteins and the loss of Fe-S cluster proteins. This mitochondrial injury may be particularly consequential in atretic follicle granulosa cells (GCs), whose energy metabolism and biosynthetic activity sustain follicular growth.

Editorial: Tumor microenvironment and personalized therapy of gastrointestinal cancer Ⅱ
Gastrointestinal cancers remain challenging malignancies because of their substantial biological and clinical heterogeneity and poor outcomes despite advances in diagnosis and treatment. Increasingly, cancer is understood not only through tumor-intrinsic features but also through interactions with the local tumor microenvironment and systemic host status.
GSOCS-LULCC: A Global dataset of Soil Organic Carbon Stock dynamics following Land Use and Land Cover Change
|
Abstract The direction and magnitude of soil organic carbon stock (SOCS) changes following land use and land cover change (LULCC) remain highly uncertain, primarily due to a lack of relevant, comprehensive global soil data. Although substantial efforts have established SOCS databases at regional, national, and sub-continental scales, an open-access global database incorporating explicit environmental drivers is urgently needed to better understand the impacts of LULCC on SOCS dynamics.

Near telomere-to-telomere gap-free genome assembly of the Atlantic salmon ( Salmo salar )
Abstract Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) is a major aquaculture species and an important model for studying salmonid evolution. However, the highly repetitive genome and extensive duplicated regions retained from the salmonid-specific fourth whole-genome duplication (Ss4R) have impeded complete genome assembly, leaving unresolved gaps and structurally ambiguous regions in previous references.
The CLIC1-Nrf2/HO-1 pathway mediates multiple modes of neuronal cell death in cerebral ischemia–reperfusion injury: an MRI-based study in rats
Abstract To establish a rat model of cerebral ischemia–reperfusion injury (CIRI) to investigate how chloride intracellular channel protein 1 (CLIC1) exacerbates neuronal damage and to assess the neuroprotective effect of its inhibition. The potential of quantitative MRI parameters (MP2RAGE T1 and R2*) as non-invasive biomarkers was also explored. Thirty-two SD rats were randomized into four groups: Sham, MCAO/R, NC + MCAO/R, and CLIC1-GS.
Experimental study on the static and dynamic characteristics of straw-lime reinforced saline soil under freeze–thaw cycles
Abstract The engineering properties of frozen saline soils gradually deteriorate with increasing freeze–thaw cycles, adversely affecting the safety of foundations and geotechnical structures. The static and dynamic characteristics of straw-lime reinforced saline soil (SLRSS) under freeze–thaw action were investigated in this study. Firstly, the unconfined compression strength (UCS) tests were adopted to evaluate the effect of freeze–thaw cycles on the UCS of SLRSS.

Abstract Everyday speech perception often occurs under concurrent cognitive demands, but it remains unclear how speech-extrinsic load influences the neural processing of continuous speech. Here, electroencephalography (EEG) recordings from 29 healthy adults are analyzed with temporal response functions (TRFs), artificial neural network (ANN) decoding, and phase-lag index (PLI)-based connectivity measures during speech listening with or without concurrent mental arithmetic.
Loss of function of Noggin inhibits glial scar formation and motor function recovery after spinal cord injury
Abstract Introduction: Noggin is a glycosylated protein that acts as an antagonist of bone morphogenetic proteins and has been implicated in astrogliosis and functional recovery after spinal cord injury (SCI). Although Noggin is known to regulate astrocytic responses, its role in reactive astrogliosis and glial scar formation after SCI remains unclear. Under normal conditions, Noggin is expressed in astrocytes in the white matter of the mouse spinal cord.
