Abstract Solar-driven interfacial evaporation represents a sustainable and cost-effective pathway for water purification, yet how to accelerate the kinetics of water molecule desorption on the surface of photothermal materials remains a critical and largely overlooked bottleneck. Here we report a dual-phase photothermal heterostructure designed to accelerate desorption and substantially boost solar-to-vapour efficiency.
