Abstract Silicon spin qubits based on metal–oxide–semiconductor (MOS) technology are compatible with semiconductor manufacturing and offer a route to scalable quantum processing. However, spin readout typically relies on proximal charge sensors, which add architectural complexity and limit qubit connectivity. In situ dispersive readout techniques are more compact, which can alleviate these constrains, but exhibit limited sensitivity.

A cosmic explosion with the force of a billion Suns went unseen - until we caught its echo

Some of the universe’s most extreme explosions leave behind almost no trace. The original explosion is unseen, but our observations can capture the long-lived echo it leaves behind as the shock front ploughs into its surrounding environment. In new research accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal, we have discovered what may be the clearest example yet of one of these hidden explosions: the radio afterglow of a powerful gamma-ray burst whose initial blast went unnoticed.

Abstract Recently, a class of long-period radio transients (LPTs) has been discovered, exhibiting emission thousands of times longer than radio pulsars1,2,3,4,5. These findings, enabled by advances in wide-field radio surveys, challenge existing models of rotationally powered pulsars. Proposed models include highly magnetized neutron stars6, white-dwarf pulsars7 and white-dwarf binary systems with low-mass companions8.
