Abstract Microglial dysfunction and glutamatergic dysregulation are implicated in the neurobiology of schizophrenia. Microglia regulate brain glutamate levels through mechanisms including the cysteine-glutamate antiporter, raising the possibility that microglial dysfunction could underlie glutamatergic dysregulation in schizophrenia. We tested this using a combined cross-sectional/longitudinal study of individuals with first episode psychosis and healthy controls.

Abstract Dopamine D2/D3 receptor modulation with antipsychotics is thought to affect cognitive function, but causal evidence in humans is scant, and largely limited to single administrations. Clarifying this is of importance given the widespread use of antipsychotics, and to understand the role of D2/D3 signalling in human cognition.
